Fabric Shopping & Planning New Projects

The local quilt shop has had a great sale on fabric going on all this month but of course I waited until the very last moment to go shopping.  It turned out Okay though.  It's been raining (Gasp, rain in California?) for most of the week and I guess I was the only one brave enough to venture out in the bad weather because I was the only one in the store. That meant LOTS of help from sales people and an opportunity to chat about all kinds of things mostly not related to quilting.

Here's what I bought today.
The beautiful bright pinkish-reddish-
orange-ish fabric is the backing for the quilt I've spent a year working on. Just when I thought I was finished with the piecing, I looked at the photo and discovered a big mistake.  Do you see it?  I spent the afternoon taking the block apart and re-sewing it.  I'm so glad I spotted it before I started quilting.  Now I'll begin quilting it and hopefully have it completed in time for the quilt show my guild is having later in the summer.

The colorful striped fabric is set to be the binding for a future project.   I know it must seem funny to have the binding and no other fabric but that's what the pattern said to do, so that's what I'm doing.  Well, that's not exactly what it said.  It said purchase the binding fabric first and then buy the rest of the fabric to match the colors in the binding.  The pattern is called Twist & Shout and if you'd like a copy of it, you can find it in the April/May 2014 issue of McCall's Quick Quilts magazine.

I fell in love with it when I saw it and have put it on my "Definitely To Do" list.  It was designed by Jean Kritinbrink and is so bright and beautiful.  Here's a link to McCall's Quick Quilts web page where you can purchase a copy of the magazine with the pattern in it.

There will be more photos coming soon of the fabric I'll use for the "twisters", the light background and the dark borders.

Have a lovely Sunday! (Col. 3:17)
